LATEST NEWS – THE BUNKER EATERY – GOLFING NEWS – SOCIAL COMMUNITY ON THE COURSE
TRIVIA RETURNS TO THE VALLEY! At long last, we were able to recommence trivia nights and changed things up a little switching to the LAST Friday of the month. It was lovely to see so many happy, smiling faces in the club on 30 October and thank you to Steve & Lynda Ritchie for hosting a fun evening.
Due to Covid regulations bookings were essential and therefore no “walk-ins” were accepted – this will apply for future events until further notice so make sure to book your table early!
Next Trivia Night Friday 27/11

COMMUNITY FOCUS
Board Director Tony Fardell and Ann Fardell met with the Bayside Council Project Officer for the Environment, Madeline Hourihan on 30/10 at the Golf Club. The object of the meeting was to take Madeline around the golf course to show her areas of the course which the club would like to improve as a habitat for birds. Ann is the CoOrdinator of The Wolli Creek Preservation Society Birdos Group and their focus is on:
1) Improving/creating habitat for small birds eg Superb Fairy Wrens, Silvereyes, New Holland Honeyeaters, Red Browed Finches etc.
2) Providing nesting boxes for parrots and owls. These birds nest in tree hollows however old trees are being cut down all over Sydney, therefore, they’re finding it increasingly difficult to find nest sites & many do not breed. BVGC are looking to partner with Council and via a $5000 grant for “Creating Habitat for Native Animals in the Bardwell Valley Golf Course” hope to arrange
• Volunteer planting day to create small bird habitat (1,000 plants)
• Installing 20 nest boxes for native bird and animal habitat
• A talk at the Club on birds in backyards & creating backyard habitats
• Signs on course to educate about the nest boxes and native planting areas Benefits of such a project would be;
• Providing habitat for native animals and birds plus removing weeds
• Getting more community members to use the golf course
• Creating links between local residents and the golf course
• Education/increase skills of club members/local community about native birds, native plants, weeds, how to plant native plants for bird habitat
