Government Grant

We have now received the formal advice the we were successful in our application for a $20,000 grant for paths from the NSW Government. The letter from the NSW Premier and the Leader article are on the notice board. As part of the grant approval the club is obliged to contribute towards the cost through whatever means they can such as volunteer labour or access to machinery and materials. If you can assist with the supply of labour or machinery please let us know. Watch out for updates on this.

Australia Day Event

Don’t forget about the Australia Day event being run by the Events Committee on Friday 26 January. If you don’t want to play golf you can still come for lunch being provided by our new caterers. See the notices available at the club, on Facebook and our website. A raffle will be drawn on Friday so get your tickets before then to be in with a chance to win a prize.

Mixed Pennant

The rounds of the Mixed Pennant matches commenced on 7 January. Unfortunately, we lost our opening two away matches but won our first home match last Sunday. The next match is on 4 February at home against Bayview. Tee-off is 11.00am. Good luck to the team for the rest of the matches.

THE VALLEY NEWS No 1

Major Pennant
The first round is on 11 February away against Campbelltown. The second round is at home on 18 February against Campbelltown. Tee-off is 10.00am. Good luck to the team.

‘Cock of the Walk’ Championships – are down to the semi-finals which will be played 27 January. Good luck to the four teams involved – Dan and Mike Levy, Keith Johnson and Ricky Hills, Gary Hooker and John Kottaridis and Bruce Alexander and Ed Yates.

2018 Women’s Summer Foursomes – Seven of our women players entered the NSW 2018 Women’s Summer Foursomes which was played at Manly Golf Club on Monday 15 January. The entrants were Kerryn Coldrey and Lynda Ritchie, Marlene Hayward and Marilyn Joma, Sue Ramsay and Anne Caterson and Susan Howard who entered with a member from Cronulla Golf Club. Unfortunately, none of our players made it trough to the semi-finals but well done ladies for your great efforts and for representing the Valley.

Catering – The new caterers Rosemary and Carmeillo Urzi will be commencing on Australia Day. We apologise for the delay to the opening date previously notified but we have been held-up getting the appliances set-up in the rearranged kitchen. Melo’s Bistro will then be open for business. Come and try the selection on offer. The hours and menu will be advertised shortly.

Trivia – the first trivia for 2018 will be on Friday 2 February. Dan and Karen Williams will be running it. The theme is sports so come dressed to play your favourite sport, dine at Melo’s Bistro and have a fun night. See the posters displayed in the club and on Facebook.

The Course – Ross and his team of volunteers are combatting some harsh conditions with little rain and extreme heat. A long-term plan for course management and greens has been prepared. Ross and Bruce have been updating many of the sprinkler head to ensure more efficient watering of the greens and course.

Vale – We were saddened to hear of the passing of Lynda Ritchie’s father in New Zealand last week. Our thoughts and with Lynda and Steve and the rest of their family. He will be laid to rest this Friday 26 January in New Zealand.
