We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year
The AGM saw a couple of changes to the Board of Directors. Graham Prideaux decided to step down after 3 or so years on the Board. Ian Davis took on the Director’s position vacated by Graham and Bruce Alexander accepted the position of Club Captain.
The Women’s AGM also saw a couple of changes to the Ladies Committee. Wendy Prideaux became Vice-President (previously Vice-Captain) and Wendy Hicks took over the position of Vice-Captain (previously Vice-President).
Course – 2017 saw the departure of Sean Ford after over 30 years with the Club. Ross Forsythe took on the role of greenkeeper with the assistance of Greg Hoare and the volunteers. There have been numerous comments from members and visitors about the improvements we are seeing to our course.
Fundraising and Donations – The Ladies Committee has again done a fantastic job raising money for the Club and for their charity the Spina Bifida Unit of the Children’s Hospital at Randwick. This is largely achieved through the two fashion parades and the Ladies Charity Day each year. A cheque for $3,000 was presented to the Club in June for artificial grass for the paths. This work is in progress. Another cheque for $3,000 was presented at the Club AGM to go towards the new canopy on the balcony. The new canopy has been ordered and measurements were taken on 16 December. We hope to have it up shortly thanks to the money provided by the Ladies Committee, members and a company sponsorship. A number of members have donated money to the Club over the year to help pay for repairs to various mechanical items, replace inefficient sprinklers and purchase of chemicals and other materials to help on the course generally.
Grants – The Club received two $3,000 grants from Golf NSW during the year to help pay for chemicals for the course and to put towards the development of the new website.
We have received advice we have been successful in our application for a council grant for laying some paths on the course. You will hear more on this next year.
Swing Fit – Kerryn Coldrey has been instrumental in bringing Swing Fit to the Valley. Many women have participated during the year and the Valley has benefited by seeing some of the ladies join the Club as a result.
Championships and Events – Congratulations to all our winners, runners-up and participants of the Men’s and Women’s Championships during the year and to all those who participated in the championships and the usual events during the year. Members and visitors continued support is greatly appreciated by the Club. A special thanks must go to the Events Committee who organised a number of special events during the year, Australia Day,
Christmas in July and Melbourne Cup day – great job to all those involved. We must thank all those who worked hard to put together a successful Legacy Day. Well done to our Pennants teams again this year: Mixed, Major and Masters. Also, congratulations to all our members who have had a hole in one this year, Mark Abrahams, Marilyn Joma, Kevin Beck, Sue Howard, Marlene Hayward and Greg Scheetz.
Catering – The Club has experienced a couple of changes to catering during the year with both caterers deciding to leave. We cannot express our thanks enough especially to Kathy Ferguson who first stepped in to cater for Australia Day and has done a fantastic job catering during December for many functions. Also we thank the volunteers who have helped by cooking BBQs and assisting Kathy with the functions, including, The Events Committee, members of the Board and Ladies Committee, Kerryn Coldrey, Ellen Van Dam and Karen Williams.
The Board of Directors and the Ladies Committee would like to take this opportunity to thanks all members for your continued support and patience while we work through the matters which need to be addressed.
We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year and we are looking forward to another great golfing year in 2018.
