Update on meeting with Golf NSW Agronomist

We have received the detailed report from Martyn Black from Golf NSW regarding actions required on the course and have commenced implementing some of the recommendations. A copy is available at the club for members to read.

Actions taken to date include:

Removal of the four large bottlebrush shrubs that were located between the two practice putting greens.

All greens have been aerated. Next aeration will be undertaken in the second half of February.

We have commenced hand watering of the greens after 4.00pm. We still need more volunteers so if you can help please advise Dan Williams or Bruce Alexander.

We have commenced writing an initial plan, regarding our greens and what remediation/replacement work each requires, incorporating Martyn’s recommendations. It will also include a proposed timetable of works and initial costings and any changes needed to the course to allow continued play.

We will be meeting shortly with Avondale Golf Club’s CEO and Superintendent to arrange acceptance of their turf to renovate ours greens.

Caterers

As you are aware our previous caterers left suddenly on 21 January.

The Board is working on finding new caterers. In the interim we have members running a sausage sizzle on Saturday’s but we are looking at other options also.

A qualified chef, Kathy Johnson, prepared a luncheon for Australia Day participants at short notice. The selection of food and desserts were appreciated by all attendees. Thanks Kathy.

There will be a tasty buffet meal for $15/pp available for Friday night trivia on 3 February. Book a table by Thursday so we can confirm numbers for catering purposes.

Mixed Pennant

Our mixed pennant team has played four of its six matches. Our team has had a win and a square at home, a close loss to Bankstown at Bankstown and a square against St Michaels at St Michaels. Good luck this coming weekend to the team against Barnwell Park at Barnwell Park.

Major Pennant

The first match will be on 12 February against Cammeray at the Valley. Please come along and support the team.

Euchre and Darts

Euchre and Darts will commence at 7.30 on Wednesday. Come along and have some fun.
