VALLEY NEWS 2019 No.1

‘Cock of the Walk’ Championships – congratulations to Greg Lee & Dan Cordina on a close fought victory in this prestigious event. In the final, they defeated a gallant combination of Dan Williams & Gary Hooker at the 19th hole. Well done to Greg and Dan.

Mixed Pennant – Our team had their first win of the competition defeating Chatswood (who were leading the Division) at The Valley on 20 January. The next match is on Sunday 3 February at The Valley against The Coast. Tee-off is 10.00am. Come down and support the team. Good luck to the team for the rest of the matches.

Australia Day Event – Congratulations to the winners of the 3-day Eclectic Australia Day event – Kathy Ferguson who won the net event with 50 points. Net runner-up was Ellen Van dam. Scratch winner was Ian Elliott. Well done to all who participated especially given the heat on Australia Day. Kathy Ferguson and Emily Leung, who is 11 years old and plays off a handicap of 29, won the Monday pairs event.

Major Pennant – The first round is on 10 February away against Warringah. The second round is at home on Saturday 16 February against Warringah. Tee-off is 10.00am. Good luck to the team.
New Penalty Areas – Remember there are new Rules of Golf that apply from 1 January 2019, including redefined Penalty Areas, which have been staked out. Please read the Local Rules on Penalty areas on display at the Pro-Shop and in the Clubhouse. These local rules will be reviewed by the Match & Greens in March 2019.

Trivia – the first trivia for 2018 will be on Friday 1 February. Dan and Karen Williams will be running it. The theme is board games. Get your team together and book a table, dine at Melo’s Bistro and have a fun night.
Weekly happenings – Happy Hour is Fridays 5pm – 6pm, Darts and Euchre are run every Wednesday from 7.30pm,

Meat Raffles – are Wednesday & Friday nights and Saturday afternoon and Grocery Grab is run at 7.00pm on Wednesday nights.

The Course – the greens are experiencing difficulties with hydrophobic areas due to t extreme weather conditions. Members who have played recently will have noticed the commencement of the works on the path between the 3rd to 4th tees. The works are hoped to be completed by the end of March. Volunteers to assist with the works are always welcome. If you can help then contact Bruce Alexander.

Vale – We were saddened to hear of the passing of Kathy Ferguson’s mother this week. Our thoughts are with Kathy and Keith and the rest of their family.
