VALLEY NEWS 2018 No 8

Congratulations – Firstly, to Kathy Ferguson for winning Division 2 individual event of the Women’s Weekend Tournament at the Vintage. Also, Susan Howard who along with three other players placed second in the teams’ event at the same tournament. Well done to all the Valley players who took part. Congratulations to Marlene Hayward & Joanne Kinkead who are our ‘Chick of the Walk’ Champions for 2018. Taking Marjorie Comber & Gai Bass to the 19th hole during the final round to clinch the trophy! Also, to Janet Rowland and Mark DeMontfort for winning the 2018 Mixed Foursomes Championship from Susan Howard and Dan Williams. Also, to Wendy Donelan and Ray Hartley who were the 36 Hole Nett winners at the Mixed Foursomes event. Lastly, to our Veterans Championship winners, A Grade – Greg Lee, B Grade – Garry Malpass, C Grade – Graham Prideaux and Super Vets – Peter McCormick. Well done to all participants in all the championship events.

Ladies Charity Day – What a fabulous day this was with 80 players taking part. Huge thanks to everyone who had a hand in making the event so successful – our sponsors, volunteers (both on and off the course), club staff and our committee. Over $5000 was raised and we will be presenting a cheque to Dr Scarf at the Spina Bifida Unit in the Children’s Hospital a cheque in coming weeks.

Golf NSW Ladies KENO Fourball – club event winners Norma McIntyre & Maree O’Neill will represent Bardwell Valley at Glenmore Heritage on 5 October.

Ladies Fashion Parade – hosted by Robin Greentree of Rainbow Fashions will take place on Wednesday 10 October. Entry is $10 and includes Morning Tea. Come along and take the opportunity to update your wardrobe.

Ladies Committee Club Donation – Marlene Hayward, Ladies Committee President, has presented the Club with $3,000 for the provision of rails and more security raised at the recent Ladies Fashion Parade. Thanks to the Ladies Committee for all the fundraising work they do during the year.

Trivia – Friday 7 September. Dan and Karen Williams are our quiz masters this month. Trivia will start at 7.45pm before the meat raffle. Gather your team, book a table, dine at Melo’s Bistro and have a fun night. $10 per player for $300 + lucky door prizes.

Upcoming events – Friday 31 August is our promotional ‘used meat raffle’ tickets for your chance to win $100 if you are there or 2 x $25 vouchers for the bistro if you are not. If you have put your used meat raffle tickets into the barrel, then come along for a chance to win. Super Sunday is the last Sunday of the month – come and play for a chance to win $100 (subject to field size). Sunday 2 September if Fathers’ Day – come to the Valley and have a meal at Melo’s Bistro and save the cooking and cleaning up. The 6th round of WGA Medal has been moved to Sunday 9 September and Thursday 27 Sept is the Women’s Bardwell Valley Shield.

Legacy Day – Saturday 13 October is our annual Charity Day to raise money for St George Legacy. Form a team and come down and play. Great prizes will be available. If you are able to donate a prize contact Dan Williams or Peter Weewan.

The Course – Over the past few weeks our greens have been under great stress given the weather conditions which has meant the ‘vertidraining’ has only just been completed. Consequently, our spring greens renovation has been delayed and will now commence on Monday, 24 September. This work includes scarifying, coring, fertilising and top dressing. If anyone can spare some time between 24 September and 5 October please let Ross or Greg Hoare know or just show up after 8am.
