VALLEY NEWS 2018 No 10

Congratulations – Well done to Wendy Donelan for winning the Veteran Women Golfers Association Weekend Players (0 – 45 handicap) with a score of 4 under par. Also, to the Mark DeMontfort who won the Drummond Golf NSW Championship and is off to King Island for the final.

Legacy Day – A great event was organized again this year for our annual Charity Day to raise money for St George Legacy. The rain largely held off and only came down towards the end of the event. Congratulations to all the winners and all those who participated. A big thanks to all those who helped on the day. A big thanks goes to Bruce Alexander and Peter Weewan for all their work before and on the day.

Ladies Fashion Parade – was another big success. A few less ladies than last year, however, the weather could have had an impact. The huge thunderclaps over the clubhouse did not dampen the enjoyment of the day and the shopping spirit. A big thanks to the Ladies Committee, our models and Val Leicht who played a large part in organising the day and for her lovely flowers for the tables.

Trivia – Friday 2 November. Kerryn Coldrey and Ian Westley are our quizmasters this month. The theme is ‘2018 to year so far’. Trivia will start at 7.45pm before the meat raffle. Gather your team, book a table, dine at Melo’s Bistro and have a fun night. Entry fee is $10 per player.

Melbourne Cup Day – Tuesday 6 November – 8.30am shotgun start. $45 for golf and lunch, $20 for lunch. Gather your team of 4 for the event and book-in on the booking sheet. Come along and watch the cup after a fun game of golf.

Upcoming events – Saturday 3 November is the 1st Rd of the Men’s Matchplay. Subsequent weeks see the 2nd Rd, Semi-final and then the final. Thursday 8 November is the Women’s Bardwell Valley Shield – Team of 3 Aggregate Stableford event. Tuesday 13 November is the Vet’s Captains Day event. Thursday 22 November is the Women’s Champagne and Ham 2BBB event. Don’t forget Super Sunday is the last Sunday of the month – 25 November.

Calcutta – If you can be at the Club this Saturday from about 4.00pm and played in Saturday’s comp then you have a chance to win the Calcutta jackpot and the day’s field which will be around $800. Turn up for your chance to win.

New Golf Rules – Don’t forget to collect and acquaint yourself with the 2019 Rules book as some of the rules will change from 1 January 2019.

The Course – A big thanks to the small group of volunteers who turned up to help with the spring greens renovation. They did a fantastic job helping Ross and Greg to get the work done in one day. I think we all appreciate the improvements to the course and greens over the last few months – well done Ross and the volunteers.
